Like many new immigrants who chase their American dreams, Tim was ambitious before he came to the United States. He ran business so successful in Guangzhou that he thought emigrating to the US would give him a second career boost. 

 

However, everything did not go as smoothly as he expected. The language barrier scuttled his plans to find a "decent" job in the new country. According to the US census bureau, among nearly 41 million immigrants who are 5 and older, 50 % reported that they spoke English less than "very well."

The language barrier creates a lot of problems to immigrants such as Tim. When they try to handle the cross-cultural adaptation, they feel lost. The time new immigrants first arrive in the new countries, they are in a weak position: their professional diplomas, working experience and qualifications are often not recognized. They lacking effective network to support their career in the new society. Most new Chinese immigrants in the United States not only struggle to quickly adapt to the new society, but also work hard to educate their children through personal experience.
